Congratulations on adopting your new family member! Having a new furry friend running around the house can be so much fun, but there is also a lot of responsibility that goes along with it. Here are some things you need to know when welcoming this new family member into your home.

Vaccinations
Similarly to when bringing home a baby, kittens need a vaccine series starting at 8 weeks, boostered every 3–4 weeks until 16–20 weeks old.

Parasite Prevention
Start flea prevention and test for intestinal parasites. A fecal test identifies the right treatment and helps prevent anemia in kittens.

Microchipping
Microchips provide permanent ID—especially useful if a collar is lost. It’s quick and typically done during spay/neuter visits.

FIV/FeLV Testing
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Leukemia are serious. Testing early helps manage your cat’s health and prevents spreading to others.

Spay/Neuter
At around 6 months, spaying or neutering helps reduce cancer risk, prevent infections and unwanted litters, and supports long-term health.

Diet & Nutrition
Kittens grow fast—choose nutrient-dense foods formulated for kittens. Mixing dry and canned helps with hydration and urinary health.
